Excerpt:

According to the historian, Gilberto Freyre, the British opened at least six cemeteries in Brazil, in Belém; São Luís, Maranhão; Rio de Janeiro; Recife; Salvador da Bahia; and Barão dos Cocais, Minas Gerais. Today there are only three remaining: in Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Recife, although there is also a Protestant cemetery in São Paulo. This article considers the history and present condition of the Recife cemetery (Cemitério dos Ingleses).
