Infanta Isabel Maria retired from public life after the succession of her brother Dom Miguel. In 1865 she drew up her will and made three priests at the English College her executors. The solemn cermony for her funeral was not matched on the streets, where the shops remained open. The article explains how matters were subsequently resolved.
