This article is based on the 2009 British Historical Society of Portugal (BHSP) publication Eyewitness Accounts of the Portuguese Revolution (1974-1976). It covers the period from May 1974 to the election of the Mario Soares government in 1976. An earlier piece in BHSP Newsletter 22 looked at British experiences on the day of and in the week immediately after the Revolution. All the reminiscences in the article come from people who were, and in some cases still are, members of the society.
