The letter that followed is printed verbatim, literatim et punctatim. Portuguese orthography has, of course, changed over the intervening years, but it is hard to say whether the other peculiarities are due to the writer himself or his Galician printer. 

Wilson, who seems to have been a veteran of the Peninsular War, had chosen an unfortunate moment for his visit to Portugal.
