Lisbon and OPorto Factory Houses, British Merchants and Ec. Relations
Recognising a potential market for domestic wares in place of expensive tablewares imported from England and France in the 1850s, Manuel Joaquim Afonso decided to set up a pottery factory at Sacavém. This article follows the fortune of that factory, which had several English owners, until its final closure in 1994.
