Venue: As a widow, Catherine of Braganza lived in the Palace, which was constructed on the open plateau of the Colina Santana (otherwise known as Campo de Sant'Ana) in the 16th Century. The impressive building is now home to the Academia Militar, which is older than Sandhurst, its equivalent in the UK. D. João VI died here in 1826, having been besiged in the palace by supporters of his rebel son, D. Miguel, in 1821.
