Programme: this tour will be given by an expert on the Palácio and its gardens. The original Palácio was built during the reign of King D. Luís to host the great International Exhibition of Porto in 1865, which was organised by the then Associação Industrial Portuense, now the Associação Empresarial de Portugal. Designed by the Britsih architect Thomas Dillen Jones, it was modelled on London's Crystal Palace. The building was demolished in 1951, to make way for the Pavilhão dos Desportos, which was later renamed the Pavilhão Rosa Mota. The gardens were designed by the German landscape architect Emil David (1839-1873), and preserve the original design to this day.
Cost: €10.00 for Members and Non-members alike – payable on the day.
