"DAILY LIFE IN ISLAMIC PORTUGAL" - a talk on medieval history

Programme: Dr. Santiago Macias has a Bachelors in History of Art from Universidade de Lisboa, a Masters in Medieval History from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and a PhD in History from Université de Lyon II. He is a visiting professor at the universities of the Algarve, Évora and Coimbra.
Born in Moura in the Alentejo, he has always had an interest in Islamic history and art. He co-directed the excavations of the castles of Mértola and Moura, was the Mayor of Moura from 2013-2017 and is an advisor to the Municipality of Mértola.
He was the scientific advisor for two exhibitions on “Islamic Portugal” (1998), “Morocco-Portugal” (1999), “Discover Islamic Art” (2004-2007) and was the author of the exhibition entitled “Mértola, the last port in the Mediterranean” (2006). He has co-written several books, including: “The Islamic Legend in Portugal”; “The Lands of Enchanted Moura” and “The Mosque of Mértola”.
