As agreed between the two brothers, D. Miguel swore the new "Carta", and later visited England, being received by George IV at Windsor. He was betrothed to his niece, D. Maria da Glória (the daughter of D. Pedro 1 of Brazil), although they never married. She became Queen Maria II in 1834 and married Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1836.
